well i am having a lazy day around the house and looking on demand trying to figure out what to watch with tydus and I came across an amazing little gem.
the name of this film is Dragon Hunters it was releasd in 2008.
I didnt know what to expect to be honest, and wasnt expecting much. to go into the film not expecting anything, really was a great experience because i was more receptive and completely surpised and astounded by the film . not only was i surpised by the originality, but i later, during the process of writing this blog review found out that Dragon Hunters was a cartoon series created by Arthur Qwak (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0704588/ ) with the French company Futurikon.the link to IMDB is the largest source of informastion that i could find on this director/ writer. Which seems strange, all things considerd. the animation styling in this film is very reminicent of the animation in the film Igor (http://www.imdb.com/find?s=all&q=igor ) also released in 2008. The animation is not as polished as ssome say other films produced by the larger houses of animation such as Pixar (http://www.pixar.com/) and Dream Works (http://www.dreamworksanimation.com/) .
Set in an amazing floating world of absolutely amazingly beautiful objects, buildings, and flying animals that seem to float through the air like an astronaut out of the shuttle. the landscapes are absolutely breath taking and reminded me of James Cameron's Avatar. this film is worth watching just for some of the cinimatic views and breath taking landscapes.
For a children’s animated film, there is an attention to detail rarely seen, which helps make the film feel like it is more than just a cartoon. It seems like there is always something going on in the background, just like a real film. If distant small field covered globes aren't spinning gently on their axis, the sheep are doing something. there are jokes and funny subject matter for all ages, from adult oriented innuendos all the way through booger wiping, allowing this film again, to be appreciated by both children and adults alike. I know that i am just a big kid, and this film contains all thing entertaining to me as a child: snot, farts, poo and people falling down in new and painful ways. This i believe, touched me all the way back to my cartoon core of watching Loonie Toons as a child on the floor at my Nana and Tata's house.
The tale centers around Gwizdo and Lian-Chu, wandering border line con-men who would rather be or become knights who have forged a career in hunting and slaying dragons for the small villages that litter the floating world that make up their reality. while they succeed in their tasks they never seem to make any money. A classic pairing that reminds of Joe Pesci meets Forest Whitaker, who coincidently is the voice actor who plays Lian-chu. Gwizdo is the fast talking game player and Lian-Chu is the big soft, who happens to be an avid knitter. there is a great scene around a camp fire where he is knitting his pants. They also have a purple pet rabbit-dog-dragon-thing named Hector who provides most of the comic relief.
The other central character is Zoe, a niece to war lord or king type character Lord Arnode, an old man and dragon hunter who is now blind and waiting for the end in his castle.
Zoe is wrapped up in tales about dragon hunters and one day hopes to be one herself. It is Zoe that enlists the help of our heroes to destroy the dreaded "World Gobbler". The biggest dragon to exsist in this fantasy world who returns every 20 years to wreak destruction. even though this film did come out before the Dreamworks film, How To Tame Your Dragon, you cannot dismiss the similar aspects including all the other species of dragons and creatures that keep you captivated of what might be coming next. The soundtrack is also top notch and features an original Cure track. i didn't even know that they still did musi . this is a must have for animation and fantasy lovers and of course, parents.
I hope that all of you will listen to me and go on to whatever web sites you buy from and purchase either the movie or the tv series which have rave reviews. well that is all for now, back to my son and our rainy day movie review. have a great one and it will be guaranteed if you watch this film.
